Sue Barker's Frilly Pink Knickers

#NovakDjokovic #hormones

Novak Djokovic entered the minefield of the "equal prize money" debate this week as many players have done so before him. He has since been trying to diffuse the minefield with some uncomfortably unconvincing grovelling. He should have known not to mention “hormones.”

World number one says male tennis players should earn more money than their female counterparts because more people watch them play, but that is not what he meant to say?

Novak Djokovic's career prize money is currently...

$97,171,248

Serena Williams career prize money is currently...

$75,862,106

Factor in the sponsorship and these sums become ever more obscene.

Novak and Serena are both pampered with private jets and huge entourages of gofers.

The notion that the elite players should be rewarded in terms of their effort to achieve such prizes is clearly anachronistic. The effort required of lowly ranked players without private jets and no cash, is clearly so much greater.

Serena has argued for equality of prize money on the grounds that it be disrespectful of her status as the equal of Novak Djokovic. She might of course hand back that prize money and direct the public gaze to her  glorious  tennis record, but that is unlikely to happen.

Novak is busy recanting his view and might also want to repay his prize money so it might be redistributed amongst the lower ranked players so they can make ends meet.

Now that would be something that would take the greed out of tennis and return it to the good old amateur days, when there was no drug abuse, but many a long white trouser, and Sue Barker's frilly pink knickers to excite and delight us all in equal measure.

Which Tory is Lying?

According to Nicky Morgan who has been out there defending Osborne's "mistake" on all the media platforms with that ever-startled look of a rabbit caught in the headlights, the Tory Cabinet including IDS, were all briefed collectively before the budget was announced by George Osborne.

IDS says otherwise of course.

What gives?

“We listen and learn from mistakes," said Osborne today without clarifying who the "we" were and pointedly unapologetic to the disabled recipients of PIPs who were scared to death last week by the “mistake”.

Which Tory is lying?

#IDSresignation #disabilty

IDS

Iain Duncan Smith claims to have been given no notice of the "disability" welfare cuts announced by George Osborne's Spring budget last week.

If we are to applaud politicians for their ability to disguise their politcal objectives, then this cuts the IDS biscuit. On Marr this morning he would have us believe that he is politically left of Osborne and Cameron which is some mother of a claim to make.

I find myself believing him because I have written so much copy exposing Cameron and Osborne as hippos, fakes, and political A-hole disingenuous mavericks.

But nobody saw this happening within hours of Osborne's big day with the rouge dispatch box.

Iain Duncan Smith. Left of Cameron?

Tory Democracy

On BBC Question Time Justine Greening discussed and contrasted our electoral system with the US system that may soon give the world a President Donald Trump. She explained that this would not happen in Britain because we have the "first past the post" electoral system, as if that were a panacea.

The undemocratic "first past the post" gave the Tories the power to do as they please for five years and they are busy demonstrating how very bad that is for democracy.

Our Prime Minister, and Jeremy Hunt are lying as if the truth were a dispensable unnecessary distraction, in our particular British brand of flawed democracy.

A 23.5 per cent share of the electorate, is not a democratic mandate, however often the Tories continue to claim that it is.

Hunt and Cameron's lies, so what?

The Elements Which Dwarf The Elephants

#leighonsea #turner #photography

Joseph Mallord William Turner, RA, has a connection with two Leighs:  Mike Leigh's acclaimed bio film, "Mr. Turner," and the sky above Leigh-on-Sea and the estuary which influenced Turner and which is much photographed by Mrs. Monk.

Her task is never complete because it never ceases to shift as the clashing weather systems do their magic unpredictably so, and every single day.

Meanwhile, we are always aware of the pitfalls. One man’s "sublime" is another’s cliché.

Lindsay Anderson employed Alan Price in live performance as a running commentary in his film O Lucky Man as this clip illustrates.

Rolling Stone magazine described the album  as “the Best Film soundtrack ever written.”

Lindsay Anderson was accused of stealing the idea from Jean Luc Godard who was the first to use this device in the film One Plus One in which he employed confusingly the band, and not the magazine, known as The Rolling Stones.

Labour Party grows under Corbyn

Mandleson may have a different message but the rules of the political game have been changed by Jeremy Corbyn. As the Oxbridge political elite undermine Corbyn with smears and sneers, others have pledged and expressed allegiance with Corbyn by joining the Labour Party in ever increasing numbers.

We expect this new politically aware group to observe and record the sins of the political classes, see through the shortcomings of our parliamentary democracy and continue to utilise social media.

When Cameron refuses to answer his PMQS, it is noted without malice. When Hunt hides from  journalists who might not accept his rules about what questions they are allowed to ask, it is noted. When Laura Kuenssberg accommodates Tories with soft questions and contrives the BBC News, it is noted. When Tory-light labour MPs reject Corbyn with pique and resentment, it is noted without malice.

When we know it is wrong, we are more likely to join Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party where there is, at the very least, a smidgen of hope, and a mountain of integrity.

Rick Wakeman's Tribute To David Bowie

12 January 2016

abstract

Abstract art is non representational art. Abstract photography is photography pointed at the real world but not intentionally representing the real world. There are other definitions of abstract art, but these photographs are intended to satisfy this criteria. Photographs of "abstract" paintings or other medium do not qualify to appear in this set. This kind of photography is a hard sell these days, because photography is a medium with potential to show a great deal very badly and abstract art intends to show very little very well. Nevertheless the rules will be broken from time to time.

Big Gob Revenge

5 January 2016

Michael Dugher

is not a name that I was aware of, or heard mentioned by any of the media before today.

I have not noticed Jeremy Corbyn malign Michael Dugher, but I can only guess Dugher lost his shadow cabinet post today because of his big gob. Tonight he has been all over the media maligning Jeremy Corbyn and damaging Labour with non specific innuendo of what the shadow cabinet might have shared with him in confidence.

Jeremy Corbyn has the mandate, so why is he still lumbered with the Processed Peas.

Let Sleeping Bankers Lie

Under the Tory watch the Tory bank-rollers have made huge profits and paid no tax.  The FCA watchdog has now dropped its investigation into the UK’s banking culture, and  we would have expected that report to examine the cosy relationship of bankers with politicians.

During this investigation George Osborne oversaw the sacking of the banking critical FCA chief executive, Martin Wheatley.

Coincidental?

We heard the Tories blaming Labour for allowing the Banks to fail in 2008, as if the Tories were keen on regulating the banks all along.

That crock of BS is what stirred me into action with the Hippo pages.

A Fish Called Colin

This story written in 2011, was the most read in 2015 and will not swim away.

Britain cannot be called a democracy as long as our government goes to war, when less than a quarter of the electorate gave them the power with which to do so.

Only in Britain is 23.5 %  a majority unless we wish to be compared to Saudi Arabia.

Because this page is the most read story on Shoestringonline in the last twelve months , I have hope that some of the disenfranchised electorate agree with me.
