However, since she is a writer only in the conceptual sense, I have undertaken to fill these pages on her behalf.
If not by her, these pages will certainly be about her, and other important matters of the day

ELY HISTORY

 

Ely Cathedral has been used for a couple of Hollywood movies including the recent Cate Blanchett, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, which the Monks have not seen, but publicity about which prompted us to make the visit. Lunch in Cambridge went down well since it was Mrs Monk’s birthday and consequently we missed the last official guided tour of the cathedral, apparently because at 4pm it was just too dark to do the tour justice. They took our £5.60 per person entrance fee nevertheless, in spite of our attempts at stalling. It will cost you £12 per person for what they call the full experience, which involves climbing the tower.

Mrs Monk took these pictures of this magical place, made more magical since we had the Cathedral to ourselves. Not another soul.
