Why would The City of Westminster disadvantage law abiding Motorists with the injudicious use of CCTV?
In 2016 Westminster Council announced that they were considering abandoning 75 CCTV cameras primarily used for crime detection and evidence-gathering to support the police.
This privatised service was run by G4S and cutting the 75 cameras would save Westminster the cost of a £1.7M upgrade, and a running cost of £1M per year to run it.
As I have shown on these pages just one camera trained on law abiding motorists raises around £5M in fines per camera per year and more than enough to feed the profit motive of G4S and the Tory spreadsheet of The City Westminster.
Westminster's problem was that they were not catching enough criminals to justify this cost. Apparently there are not enough criminals stupid enough to be caught and if caught they would be more likely to increase the cash flow burden on Westminster and not alleviate it.
So, Westminster would rather let the criminals go and use CCTV to go for the unlimited number of unsuspecting law-abiding but vulnerable motorists that might easily be caught.
